A Forbidding Land of Treasures

Known for it's astounding geologoical features steep canyons, sharp ridges, gullies, spires and knobs, Badlands National Park is also rich in palentological resources. The Oligeocene-era mammal fossils found there make it a favorite of Paleontoligists the world over. Surpisingly, Badlands National Park is home to the largest mixed-grass prairie in the whole National Parks Service, including 64,000 acres of wilderness. The was chosen as the site for the reintroductions of the black-footed ferret, one of the most enangered land mammals in North America. Bison are also common and deserver plenty of space, so take care when viewing these giant land mammals.
